Those were the words of peasant Susana Rosales, member of the National Peasant and Indigenous Movement (MNCI) of Argentina. The movement hosts the secretariat of the Latin American Coordination of Countryside Orgnizations (CLOC-Vía Campesina).

Susana is from Cordoba province. She participated at the “5th Native Seed Festival and Family Farming: Building Food Sovereignty” held from April 12-14 in Valle Eden, Uruguay. The festival was organized by the Network for Saving Native and Creole Seeds in Uruguay, REDES-Friends of the Earth Uruguay, Programa Uruguay Sustentable, Centro Agustín Ferreiro (training center for rural teachers in Canelones department), the National Commission of Rural Promotion and the School of Agronomy of the University of the Republic.

CLOC has a campaign in defense of native seeds that raises awareness about the value of seeds for food and for food sovereignty, said Susana.

The peasant highlighted the training of colleagues in peasant agroecology schools, where they study food production and its availability in local markets through fair trade networks. The aim is that “food sovereignty reaches more people”, she concluded.
