The building of Belo Monte hydroelectric dam has caused widespread controversy in Brazil. To fuel the debate, the documentary called “Belo Monte, A declaration of War” will be screened on Sunday 17 June as part of the Rio+20 Summit.
The film will be simultaneously launched in a theater in Sao Paulo, and it will likely be screened at the Peoples Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
The documentary has 120 of footage captured over 2 years of work, where they collected opinions both for and against the dam.
The filmmakers traveled to Altamira, Brasilia, São Paulo and interviewed indigenous communities by the coast of Xingu river, threatened by the dam.
The initiative was surrounded by all kinds of contradictory information, which sparked national and international reactions.
