Real World Radio’s correspondent and member of Friends of the Earth Costa Rica, Henry Picado, interviewed the leader a the meeting of the Mesoamerican Movement Against the Mining Extractive Model, known as M4, held in Honduras.

Zuñiga gave details of the international meeting of human rights in solidarity with Honduras to be held from February 17 to 20 in Bajo Aguan, Honduras.

Systematic human rights violations, illegal arrests, repression of peaceful demonstrations, kindappings, political assassination and criminalization of the protest describes the situation in Honduras, especially in Bajo Aguan.

“The meeting aims to expose what is happening here, this shameful situation. The coup d’état continues and so does the bloodshed”, said Zuñiga.

The COPINH leader explained that the Bajo Aguan conflict began when the former president Manuel Zelaya wanted to deliver lands of the agrarian reform to peasant groups organized in co-operatives.

“At the time tycoon Miguel Facusse began saying that these were his lands”, said Zuñiga, who also exposed the presence of US military in that part of Honduras.
