They especially make reference to the latest confrontations in Bajo Aguan, Colon Department, along the Pacific coast.

The Front, the main leaders of the struggle against the Coup d´etat in Honduras, states that the actions were carried out in a coordinated way aiming to protect the economic interests of Miguel Facusse and other allied landowners.

“This situation keeps happening because they are taking advantage of our defenselessness after the Coup d´ Etat which established a dictatorship by the oligarchy”, reads the statement.

Local communication media are also suffering these attacks. This week, journalists of community radio Zacate Grande were arrested and someone tried to steal equipment from radio Orquidea, from Bajo Aguan.

Meanwhile, according to the Front, transnational bank HSBC´s security officers participated in an eviction in Zacate Grande, which resulted in 16 people arrested. The Bank is based in London and is widely present in Latin America.

“The increasing repression against the unarmed population who is claiming their legitimate rights is unpunished and large communication media are accomplices”, stated the Front. A delegation of international observers visited Valle del Bajo Aguan, which was militarized a month ago, according to Agencia Pulsar. The news agency gathered the testimonies of the population that warns that military officers have established there a “siege”.
