There are already several work fronts coordinated throughout the world. The goal is to have an influence on the positions of the governments, prevent false solutions to climate change and underpin the struggle of the affected communities.
The world´s most representative social movements will bring their voices to the 15th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change, which will take place in Denmark´s capital city, Copenhagen, from December 7th to 18th, 2009.
On December 12th, there will be a big street mobilization under the theme “Climate Justice Now”, and during the conference there will be several fora, workshops, debates and talks promoted by the peoples´ organizations.
In the run-up to these activities, Real World Radio interviewed Irene Velez, from Censat-Friends of the Earth Colombia and a member of the coordination of the climate justice and energy program of the environmentalist federation.
Who are the people responsible and who are the victims of climate change? Which are the consumption models that should be modified? What are the real commitments the governments should take?
How is the implementation of REDD affecting forests? How will REDD affect, for instance, the indigenous peoples who depend on Amazon forests?
These were some of the issues addressed by the Colombian activist.
