Laura Chinchilla didn´t hesitate to order the violent removal of over 20 indigenous leaders and members of allied organizations from the National Legislative Assembly of the country. The indigenous people had staged a sit-in demanding the passing of an autonomy law, something that has been delayed for decades.

The Costa Rican President said she was not competent to give priority to regulations signed by Costa Rica under the United Nations, which haven´t been “internalized” with national regulations.

Real World Radio interviewed Sergio Rojas, a Costa Rican indigenous leader, who talked about the violent repression suffered by the indigenous people on Tuesday, 10th.

Also, while the organizations are discussing the next steps, Sergio Rojas said that the will file an international complaint against the Costa Rican government.
