As another example of the level of repression in Colombia, a forum of women with HIV, gender activists and men who are aware of this problem, which took place in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, was suddenly ended by the local authorities of Cali.

On November 25th, in Cali, Colombia, women, human rights and other social organizations met to commemorate this International Day. The 2nd Women, HIV and Poverty Forum: “Look at me, I´m a woman fighting for life” was organized by Lila Mujer, an organization of women living with HIV.

Organizations such as the Permanent Human Rights Committee, Suyana Human Rights Corporation, the National Women´s Network, and Lazo Blanco recognize that the discussions about HIV/AIDS should leave the doctor´s office and labs.

This is a discussion involving culture, gender and also social class: “it´s not the same being a man than a woman with HIV, but it is not the same living with HIV being rich or poor, it´s not the same being a poor, black woman living with HIV than a woman in other conditions”, said the members of Lazo Blanco, a group of men working on violence towards women.

“Our system does not ensure equity or dignity with reference to HIV/AIDS”, they said.
