Thursday is the fourth day of official talks of the 18th Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change which is being held in Qatar’s capital, Doha.
Real World Radio spoke on Wednesday with environmental activist Asad Rehman of Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland and spokesperson of Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) at the talks in Doha. FoEI is an environmental federation with almost 80 member groups around the world.
Rehman has long-standing experience following the UN climate talks and he has regularly attended the COPs every year, as well as the “inter-sessional” meetings that the UN holds at least twice a year ahead of every COP.
Real World Radio will publish regular reports with updates from Doha provided by Rehman and other Friends of the Earth activists as well as members of allied social movements and organizations.
This time Rehman told us about the role of developed countries at the COP 18, the actions they should take to tackle the serious climate crisis, the positions of other country groups that are closer to the demands of social movements, and the presence of the civil society in Doha.
