Palestinian people remember the worst day of their history under brutal Israeli siege of Gaza

Every May 15, the Palestinian people mark the Nakba Day, the “catastrophe”, the moment when they were displaced from their lands by the Israeli occupation and the foundation of said state. It was in 1948 and this Tuesday, the day following the murder of 60 Palestinians by Israeli forces in the Israeli border with the Gaza Strip, marks its 70th anniversary.

“Israelis attack all people in Gaza, women, children, even the handicapped on the wheelchairs”, said to Real World Radio activist Abeer Butmeh, of PENGON – Friends of the Earth Palestine, about the Israeli attack on Monday against Palestinian demonstrators. She also said that in addition to the people killed, over 2800 people were injured and 60 of them are in critical condition.

The Palestinian demonstrators were demanding the right of Palestinian refugees to go back to their lands and rejected the opening of the US Embassy in Israel in Jerusalem, the city Palestine claims as its capital. US President, Donald Trump “broke the peace process and any kind of negotiations”, said Abeer. “Jerusalem will be the capital of Palestine”, she added.

The activist of PENGON – Friends of the Earth Palestine added: “We deeply regret the continued silence of the international community and its inability to put an end to the suffering of our people in Gaza. (...) We call the international organizations to put an end to dealing with Israel as a State above the laws, that violates daily the international law in the absence of accountability, with the American green line to continued occupation and its war crimes against the Palestinian people”.
