In the framework of the Latin American Meeting of University Outreach “Extenso 2009” which is taking place in Montevideo, Real World Radio interviewed Maria Elena and Alfonso, members of the Santiago del Estero Peasant Movement (MOCASE) from Argentina.

They made reference to the creation of a Peasant University by MOCASE and the Peasant and Indigenous National Movement by Vía Campesina International.

“Our ideological struggle against agribusiness will not end until destroying transnational corporations”, said Alfonso.

The Peasant and Indigenous National Movement of Argentina is organizing for next week a mobilization in Buenos Aires where the World Forestry Congress will take place. Organizations from all regions of Argentina and neighbour countries will mobilize outside the buildings where big forestry transnational corporations will meet to design future strategies.

Tree monocultures are one of the main causes of displacement of peasants and native communities in Latin America.
